Now that things are starting to wind down and reality is coming back quickly I thought I would blog about what we have been up to the past 2 weeks. (WARNING....long post ahead.)
Week 1: We started off by making our annual treat plates and delivering those to neighbors and friends! I then had an appointment with an allergist at Medical City Hospital in Dallas and we were off to Sherman late Monday afternoon. Monday evening we went to Grandma Wertz's house and somewhat participated in the annual tradition of making/decorating sugar cookies. Tuesday we ran errands and looked at every store trying to find Ross a black jacket without a logo on it for his mission. We found out that the reason his jacket and backpack can not have a logo on it is because there are gangs in San Diego and he could get jumped if they see certain logos on clothing. Anyways...later in the day I stole my sweet cousin Andrea for some shopping and fun. Tuesday night our whole family went out to eat at this very neat Mexican restaurant in Ft. Worth called Joe T. Garcia's, courtesy of mom and dad. They only have 2 entrees: enchiladas and fajitas and both are quite delicious! This restaurant also seats 1000 people. There are several different rooms and a very nice/quaint patio. Wednesday we did a few things around town and Ryan cooked us a great Asian dinner that included Sweet and Sour Chicken and Mongolian Beef! Thursday I stole my other cousin Alivia for a day of more shopping and errands. The first place she wanted to go was the donut shop, so we of course stopped there and got a treat! Thursday night we had the whole family over for Christmas Eve. Friday we started off the morning by opening gifts at my parents' house, and eating breakfast. We then went to Mimi and Popa's for lunch, gifts, and a gift card exchange. Later on we went to Grandma and Grandpa Wertz's for gifts and a little dinner. That night we headed down to the airport to fly to Salt Lake City, Utah for a week to visit Ryan's family.
Week 2: We got in late Christmas night and went straight to bed. Saturday morning we opened gifts with Ryan's parents and then ate a yummy Christmas breakfast! Later in the afternoon we went to Grammy and Pa Poulson's house for lunch/dinner and gifts. We had a great time visiting with them and we even got to talk to Ryan's aunt who lives in Germany via Skype. Sunday we headed down to St. George to visit Pa Steed and Erma. They are in their mid 90s and are still doing ok...a few bumps in the road every now and then, but they are doing good considering their age. We visited with them for awhile and went to dinner. Monday we went shopping at the 2 malls that are in St. George and met up with Ryan's Uncle Emmett for lunch. We headed back to SLC later in the evening Monday. On our way home Ryan's cousin Jason called and said he was on his way down to St. George and asked if we could meet up somewhere in between where all of us were. Thankfully we were only about an hour from a good meeting point and we stopped to eat dinner and see him. He was one of Ryan's college roommates at Utah State and unfortunately we don't get to see him too often. Tuesday and Wednesday we did some more shopping in SLC, went out to some nice dinners, and saw the lights at Temple Square. Thursday night was NYE and we went to dinner with some of Ryan's friends and then came back to Ryan's parents' house and the guys played their guitars and I made snacks and drinks for them! I actually managed to stay awake till midnight(and later)to ring in the New Year with the guys and make a toast! Friday we finally headed home to Rockwall!
All in all we had a great holiday season and were able to do so many fun things and see so many family members and friends!!!!
